OPMC Recognized in the Top 10% of Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities in US

HCA Healthcare’s Orange Park Medical Center’s Inpatient Rehabilitation Center has ranked in the top 10 percent of 856 inpatient rehabilitation facilities across the U.S. by Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation (UDSmr®, LLC). The ranking was determined by using UDSmr, LLC’s tool that provides facilities with a performance score and percentile ranking drawn from over 80 percent of all inpatient rehabilitation centers in the country.

“Having this caliber of rehab care is critical to meet the needs of our high acuity patients,” said Dr. Ronnie Bond, Neurologist at Orange Park Medical Center. “Orange Park Medical Center continues to grow with our community, expanding our services and specialty care offered for patients that need this high-quality rehabilitation care after their hospital stay.”

UDSMR, LLC’s uses a report card that uses indicators of efficiency and effectiveness contained in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Patient Assessment Instrument (IRF-PAI). The goal of the Report Card is to recognize high-performing facilities for their delivery of quality patient care that is effective, efficient, timely, and patient-centered.

The Orange Park Medical Center rehabilitation center helps patients overcome functional limitations brought on by an injury or illness such as stroke, cardiac and pulmonary events, brain back and spinal cord injuries, orthopedic fractures, amputations, neurological injuries, falls and other critical conditions. Their inpatient therapy program includes three or more hours of therapy a day, six to seven days a week by a comprehensive team of physicians, nurses, speech pathologists, and physical and occupational therapists.

According to the CDC, stroke is a leading cause of serious long-term disability reducing mobility in more than half of stroke survivors 65 and over and accounts for 26% of Orange Park Medical Center’s inpatient rehabilitation patients. Falls also add to disabilities for those 65 and older with one out of five falls causing a serious injury that results in 800,000 hospitalizations across the US each year.

Dr. Bond says, “Having intense rehabilitation early on in the recovery process helps a patient regain function and mobility sooner and increases their chance at the best recovery possible for their situation.”

“To recognize the efficient and effective care it provides to its patients, we are pleased to present this award to Orange Park Medical Center,” said Troy Hillman, Manager of the Analytical Services Group at UDSmr, LLC. “As the creator and caretaker of the nation’s largest database of rehabilitation outcomes, and with over thirty years of experience and data, UDSmr, LLC continues working with the industry to establish best practices. The development of the PEM Report Card has served as a tool to identify and recognize high-performing facilities, to work with them to learn how they provide efficient and effective care and to share what we learn with others to elevate the performance of all. We look forward to working with Orange Park Medical Center and the other top performing facilities across the country that rank in the top 10 percent to improve care in all inpatient rehabilitation facilities.”

This is the fourteenth year that UDSmr, LLC. has issued these awards. The data used for this report was based on twelve months of data drawn from both Medicare and non-Medicare patients. The results were weighted and combined into a single composite score, and each facility was assigned a percentile rank from 0 to 100 relative to the other qualifying Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities subscribers in the UDS‑PRO® database.

Orange Park Medical Center’s Inpatient Rehabilitation Center opened to the Clay County community in 2016 and has treated just over 2,000 patients. The hospital recently began construction on two 24-bed patient floors and a new ICU and cares for over 1,700 patients requiring intensive care services for advanced cardiovascular care, complex neurovascular care, traumatic injuries, and other critical conditions that often require inpatient rehabilitation care.
